Hi Everyone!
This blogging thing is new to me, but here goes!
I have been working on this website for some time now. Its been a bit of an uphill battle, I must admit.
I have been teaching myself web design as I have been going, and for a while I felt as though I was taking 1 step forward, and about 100 back. That’s life I suppose.
Anyway, I left my full time job working on a thoroughbred stud farm in August 2018. I decided that I wanted to pursue my photography full time. Crazy right? I mean, who goes from earning a steady income every month, to falling straight into the giant abyss in front of them? Yup, that was me.
It was terrifying, but I truly think it was the best thing for me at the time. Although I loved my job (I miss it terribly, and think about it everyday) I wasn’t really in a great space. I lived in the middle of nowhere, and only had myself as company for 95% of the time. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my own company – but there is only so much loneliness one can take.
I resigned, and booked a ticket to the UK, where I did the various Thoroughbred sales between England and Ireland for 3 months. I made decent money – which was my safety net for heading back to SA and starting my Photography full time.
I began my full time photography journey in January 2019. Thanks to a dear man, Michael Price (May he Rest In Peace), I was a step ahead in the Niche market of Yearling Photography. Michael was great to me and a super mentor. He taught me everything I know about capturing a conformation shot of a yearling. From standing them up, to communicating well with the grooms, to editing the photos in post afterwards. Thank you Michael. He passed away from cancer shortly after I left Moutonshoek at the end of 2018. I often have questions to ask him still. He was truly a great photographer and person.
So, I knew how to photograph these yearlings, now I just had to get the work right? Wow, but did the South African Thoroughbred industry step in to help. I have had a phenomenal amount of support from the industry. A special thanks to Wilgerbosdrift stud, Winterbach stud and Moutonshoek, who have all consistently used me for the last year. I really appreciate it.
I have slowly been building up the rest of my photography business, with my second largest income coming from the real estate side. I have photographed a number of guest houses for people and it is quite creative and something I had not really thought of doing when I started photography full time. I have also been dabbling in lifestyle shoots – engagements, proposals and weddings.

It’s been a financial change, that’s for sure, with some months being worse then others. But the work load is getting more consistent, and my clientele are happy with my work. That’s the goal, I suppose. So on wards and up wards to a great 2020, and thanks for taking the time to read my first blog post!
Welcome to my new website!
